Pak's Senate to discuss Musharraf's recent statement on Kashmir Islamabad | December 08, 2006 1:07:36 PM IST
The Opposition parties in Pakistan's Upper House - the Senate - are learnt to have submitted an adjournment motion with the Senate Secretariat expressing concern over President Pervez Musharraf's statements about giving up UN resolutions on Kashmir, and to discuss the matter. In their motion, the Opposition expressed concern over the President's presentation of a four-point agenda for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute without discussing it in the parliament and called it a "major diversion" from the longstanding stance of Pakistan and the Kashmiris. "It seems that the President has laid bare the intentions behind the leadership's stream of vague and confusing ideas since the peace process began," the motion submitted by PPPP parliamentary secretary Izhar Amrohvi stated, according to the Daily Times. The paper further said that the President had made the statement (on Kashmir) in a recent interview with an Indian TV news channel. The motion was signed by eight senators including Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Raza Rabbani, Prof Khurshid Ahmed, Enver Baig, Dr Babar Awan, Farooq Hamid Naik, Sadia Abbasi, Rukhsana Zubairi and Safar Ali Abbasi.
