Pakistan army officer killed in Kashmir encounter Srinagar | July 29, 2006 10:15:05 AM IST
A Pakistani Army officer was among the three intruders killed while attempting to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir, army sources here confirmed. The officer was identified late Friday as Major Mohammad Hyder Turki of the ninth battalion of the Baloch regiment of the Pakistan army. The three infiltrators were killed in a gun battle after they crossed the Line of Control (LoC) into the Indian side in the Gurez sector of north Kashmir's Baramulla district Wednesday. "The killing of the Pakistan army officer who was a resident of Gujranwala in Pakistan's Punjab has clearly established the role of the Pakistan army in infiltration," said an Indian army spokesman. The other two slain militants have been identified Muhammad Qasim Khan alias Abu Usman and Muhammad ayub alias Islam, both residents of Pakistan. (IANS)
